Three Churches of Mahone Bay
The Three Churches of Mahone Bay is one of the most famous landmarks of the South Shore of Nova Scotia. Located in the town of Mahone Bay, it consists of St. James Anglican Church, St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, and Trinity United Church, all of which were built in the 1800s. Not only are they the subject of many Nova Scotian postcards, but they frequently host concerts and other community events.

March In Review

Canada Trivia
Did you know that Hawaiian pizza isn’t actually Hawaiian, but Canadian? Or that Nova Scotia is Latin for “New Scotland”? ALCC students put their knowledge to the test and learned a lot of interesting facts about our city, province, and country this month through a game of trivia! Some people walked away with a prize, but it’s safe to say that everyone walked away having learned something new!

Ramadan Iftar
This March, ALCC students, teachers, and community members gathered to participate in Iftar, the evening meal that marks the end of the daily Ramadan fast at sunset. Along with enjoying a tasty meal, attendees engaged in trivia games, won prizes, and explored Ramadan traditions and values. Ramadan is a Muslim holiday that takes place at different times every year. This year, Ramadan took place from February 28th to March 29th.

Nowruz
We’ve celebrated countless new years at ALCC, from the calendar new year on January 1st, to the lunar new year in January or February. This year, our own teacher Setareh introduced ALCC students and staff to Nowruz: the Persian new year and its traditions. Nowruz marks the first day of the solar new year, and usually falls between March 19 and March 22 of the Gregorian calendar. How many new years can you name?

Art Gallery of Nova Scotia
The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia is the largest art museum in Atlantic Canada, located in downtown Halifax, and houses an extensive collection of regional, national, as well as international artwork, including pieces by renowned folk artist Maud Lewis. ALCC students and teachers had the opportunity to visit it this month and experience a wife variety of art featuring Nova Scotian and Canadian themes.
